This work in progress research paper describes a taxonomy of community-led resistance against artificially intelligent, embodied, and surveillance technologies. Artificially intelligent technologies, especially large language models, have received an incredible amount of investment and integration leading to serious implications about the future of work and education. Simultaneously, community organizers have taken steady action to resist or renegotiate these technologies in their everyday lives by first educating their peers. Afterwards, they co-create actionable paths forward toward alternative visions for the community’s future in a world where these technologies exist. We argue that by giving some attention to how communities are navigating the stabilization of these technologies, we can further develop practical ways to support public literacy of AI technology. After conducting a content analysis of various artifacts produced by these organizing communities, we produce a Taxonomy of Resistance and Renegotiation that represents public-driven education and interfacing with technology. Finally, we discuss the implications of this taxonomy on the training of future technology designers, developers, and researchers.
